DETAIL (BEARTHOVEN)

This is the back... with full scale piano keys.

The big buttons are actually plastic furniture movers, those you put on the legs for easy slide; they are bonded with super glue, primed with gesso, and painted. Posted by Picasa

"BEARTHOVEN"

This is me with my finished bear for Project "Spirit Bears in the City." Thanks to my sponsor TP SYSTEMS http://tpsystems.com/ and project organizer BC LIONS SOCIETY for making it possible.

This one and over a hundred other bears done by BC artists will be on display in different parts of Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler, and other cities.

Finally, each will be auctioned off to the highest bidder with the proceeds going to various charities supported by the BC Lions Society. Posted by Picasa

FISH & MORE FISH

This is my latest painting... the 2nd in a series of seascape collection. (The 1st is "SMILEY'S). Click on the picture to have a bigger view, and be sure to scroll down to see the details and how the work progressed from a blank canvas to a "masterpiece."

I'm now working on the 3rd painting... it's about sports fishing... that's all I can tell you for now; wait a couple of weeks and you will see the result.

Thank you for visiting! Posted by Picasa

Detail (Fish & More Fish)

The boys are successful in catching some fish... and the cat too, or rather he "stole" some. Posted by Picasa

Detail (Fish & More Fish)

Kingfisher II is a reliable supplier of fresh fish for the cannery... on Neptune Bay.

Notice the vessel's registry number is actually my son Kirby's birthday. Posted by Picasa

Detail (Fish & More Fish)

Crates full of fish from the Kingfisher II.

One can also find more sea produce in the fish market. If you can read the writings on the wall it says: "If it swims... we have it!"

Of course, not when you try to order a mermaid! Posted by Picasa

Detail (Fish & More Fish)

Father and son caught a fish... and so did the pelican. Posted by Picasa

FISH & MORE FISH

This is the finished painting. What do you think?

I will post the details next. Posted by Picasa

"THE BIG RED Herring" is a restaurant specializing in seafood cuisine. Today's specials are: Grilled Salmon, Crab Bisque, and Clam Chowder. Yum!

At first it was to be a marine hardware and supply store... but the facade looks so nice, more suited for a restaurant... so I changed it to casual dining by the sea.

Now I painted the houses in my "signature" bright colors.

Notice there's a church on top of everything... my way of honoring "God above all."

FISH & MORE FISH

Blocked the roofs, painted the clouds and a wash of blue for the water. Posted by Picasa

FISH & MORE FISH

Started a new painting titled "Fish & More Fish"

Medium is Acrylic on Canvas
Image size: 24 x 30 in.

No.2 in a series of seascape. (No.1 is "SMILEY'S) Posted by Picasa

SMILEY'S - finished!

Finally, the painting is done. To make the elements more cohesive, I changed the streamer's proposal to an ad for Smiley's... saves me from painting a man proposing to his girlfriend.

This is one of the most challenging painting I did to date. I always strive to improve my craft and push myself to create a more superior work than the last. Perhaps the work I created before my last breath will be my best. Posted by Picasa

SMILEY'S

Painted more people on the water.

The question I'm frequently asked, is it hard to paint people? Of course it is... unless you paint them in the "abstract" style, you see them from afar but not on close-up.

SMILEY'S

Painted the people enjoying the outdoor cafe. Posted by Picasa

SMILEY'S

Added a floating platform, put in the details on the background houses, and a plane carrying a "proposal." Posted by Picasa

SMILEY'S

Notice I changed the perspective of the Red House... to cover the tracks I painted a trellis. Posted by Picasa

SMILEY'S

New Painting titled "SMILEY'S"
Acrylic on Canvas size 24"X30"

This place is a fiction of my imagination... hatched from a mind always yearning for the ideal.

Enjoy viewing my work. Thank you for visiting! Posted by Picasa

Darwin Awards

Yes, it's that magical time of the year again when the Darwin Awards are bestowed, honoring the least evolved among us. Here then, are the glorious winners:

1. When his 38-caliber revolver failed to fire at his intended victim during a hold-up in Long Beach, California, would-be robber James Elliot did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked.....

And now, the honorable mentions:

2. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat-cutting machine and, after a little shopping around, submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company expecting negligence sent out one of its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and he also lost a finger. The chef's claim was approved.

3. A man who shoveled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman had taken the space. Understandably, he shot her.

4. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days.

5. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit.

6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, he man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer...$15. (If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed?)

7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that he'd just throw a cinderblock through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinderblock and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinderblock bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape.

8. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the woman was able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher. Within minutes, the police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the car and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand there for a positive ID. To which he replied, "Yes, officer, that's her. That's the lady I stole the purse from."

9. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at 5 a.m., flashed a gun, and demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they weren't available for breakfast. The man, frustrated, walked away.

******A 5-STAR STUPIDITY AWARD WINNER*****

10. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline and plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges, saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.

Picture of the Day

<---Davinci, the artist cat! Posted by Picasa

Smile of the Day:

A Sunday School teacher began her lesson with a question "Boys and girls, what do we know about God?"

A hand shot up in the air. "He is an artist!" said the kindergarten boy.

"Really? How do you know?" the teacher asked.

"You know - Our Father, who does art in Heaven..."
